I had to kneel on the floor so my teacher could measure my skirt to ensure it wasn't over an inch above my knees. That was 50 years ago. This needs to stop.

This is another example of schools needing to change their attitude and examine why they feel a child in elementary school would be distracting to other elementary age children!?! It's inappropriately sexualizing children!

When I was in a SPS middle school in the mid-2000s we were shamed constantly for what we chose to wear. Shirts violently tugged down, sent home if we refused to change into the large t-shirt the school provided you when your own clothes were “inappropriate”. We were chided in assemblies and screamed at in the halls. I hated middle school. Only in high school did I realize I hated it because the adults were subjecting us to abuse. That is not too strong a word. Really hope someday no more children will experience being shamed and screamed at for their clothing in their educational environment.

Dress codes like these for girls takes away their power. Sexual assault and harassment is never the victims fault.

This is ridiculous. NOTHING sexually distracting to the learning environment about a dress that covers shoulders, chest, and tops of legs on a PREPUBESCENT CHILD. This insanity has to stop. The only thing it's teaching is self-consciousness about perfectly modest clothing. THAT is what's distracting from the learning environment.

Dress codes should be as simple and gender neutral as possible - require that people wear something on top and on bottom, that covers nipples and genitals with opaque fabric. End of story.

The Seattle SD needs to stop making little girls sexual with their idiotic, one-sided policies that victimize little girls without even touching them. Disgusting!

To say that this child is wearing inappropriate clothing is just one of the inappropriate things about this. If there are little boys in an elementary school seeing this as sexual OR adults seeing it as sexual, maybe you need to look at why this simple, modest dress is seen that way, rather than harassing, sexualizing and destroying little girls with your hyper-sexual view of life. Disgusting that you even think there is anything sexual about this little child.
