My brother and I were born with this issue. If it weren't for the doctor who did amazing pro bono surgeries I can honestly say I don't know what our parents would of done to get us the help we needed. We were born in the 50's.. we didn't have health insurance.

My son, like Ella, was born with a cleft lip and palate and is on almost the exact same timeline and number of surgeries. The fact that medical insurance does not cover these necessary services for the children puts an unnecessary hardship on families that already deal with so much. The list of services that cleft affected children need in their life that are not covered by insurance is staggering. Help these families, these children, and help your community. These are birth defects that should be covered by medical insurance.

Cleft palate and hair lips should be covered everywhere. Mine was in Boston, Ma. Your born with it you don't do anything that makes it happen.
