I think this is absurd to have this kind of punishment when clearly a elementary child has no control over his or her parents actions. The school super intendant needs to have some regulations as to what each schools principles are aloud to use for discipline. Majority of children that age are dropped off by their parents and can't control if they are late and should not be punished. I'm proud of you Siobhan for standing up for what's right!!

I am a mother of FOUR elementary school aged children at Selma Bartlett in Henderson. I can not believe we have to sign a petition to change such an absurd policy! Since when do we punish children by humiliating or shaming them? Not to mention if an elementary aged child is tardy to school, it is often times the fault of the PARENT responsible for driving them to school! This is ridiculous! Please change this policy to something that inspires or motivates the children to want to be at school!!!!!

Thank you all so much for your signatures and input. Our children are our future, and this is certainly not brightening it. Here is my blog: http://tardypunishment.blogspot.com/?m=1 find out what happened before the petition and after.

Children should never be embarrased or humiliated because their parents were late dropping them off for school.

This is heartbreaking. Children can already be so mean to other kids, why give them another reason to single someone out. The school staff is acting like a bully!

Most rediculous rule I have ever heard of....there are many, many reasons why a child could be late...most of which is out of their control...punishing a child when it is not their fault, is rediculous and just a power play for an over bearing, cruel adult....shame, shame on whoever made this rule!! Whatever happened to the love and understandinga school official is suppose to have? This is not a Godly thing to do to a child...be adult about this, and find a better, less humiliating way to deal with the problem!

This is terrible and doesn't have any place in a learning environment.
