The Plymouth-Canton Educational Park consists of three high schools on one, three hundred and five acre campus. Most students walk from school to school each day and are forced to deal with whatever weather comes at them. Winter is an especially tough month for the students because snow impacts the roads and makes walk conditions brutal. Pcep is also known for rarely calling a snow day when other districts have already closed. This decision is usually decided by administrators. More often then not, administrators do not consider the weather conditions through a students point of view. While walking from school to school, snow and ice cover the sidewalk which makes it very slippery. Also the paths are not big enough to handle six thousand kids at once so kids are forced to walk in puddles and snow to get to class on time. Another point to bring up is that student walk through below freezing temperatures. The temperature guidline to close school is -22 degrees. Meanwhile kids are walking through sub zero temps that causes pain to expose skin like our faces. I’m creating this petition because I want the school board to consider the safety and well being of students. I walk outside four times out of the five passing time periods. Inclimate weather impacts me greatly and I would appreciate if both my well being and others well being were put first instead of the money that the school makes. Keep in mind, there has been many instances where schools in our county have been closed while PCCS stayed open. That is obserd considering the amount of times PCEP students have to walk outside.
