This is a petition to get the coursework extension policy changed for the University of Kent Anthropology and Conservation department. SAC's new policy for this year is that all concessions form requests for coursework extensions 'must be submitted to SAC Student Support AT LEAST 5 working days (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) BEFORE the deadline'. This petition is trying to change that policy. The Annex 9: Concessions Applications and Appeals against Recommendations of Boards of Examiners, states that the policy on concessions is, 'Concessions applications should be submitted WITHIN five days of the event to which the concessions application pertains'. Other departments such as SECL, have a policy that states, 'Extension requests must be submitted at the earliest opportunity and NO LATER than five working days AFTER the deadline to which they relate.' The SAC policy therefore puts its students at a direct disadvantage.

How are we going to know 5 days in advance that I'm going to need the extension and even if we do 3 days after is not sufficient time esp when dealing with a death in the family

When an individual requests an extension to a piece of work for medical reasons, 4 working days in advance of an imminent deadline, staff need to respond to that request asap, with notice being granted at least 24 hours prior to the original dead line. Staff members responsing to an extension request within a few hours prior to the original deadline, only to deny the extension request, is unexceptable.
