It is a joke that students are expected to pay more than the original free from their own home and no way to pay for it in these trying times.

I was fleeced for 150 euro by a person overseeing the cinnire some years ago at an extremely remote Gaeltacht. Decided to bully the lad with the most staying in their house for which i was under prepared. Looking at these costs anyway, what a disgrace during this pandemic!

It is a disgrace that students have to pay €650 when they are already paying almost €15,000 for their masters. To attend the Gaeltacht it would cost €700 and this includes accommodation and food. There is an option on the website to remove accommodation if you have organised your own which brings the cost to €400 so how can they even dare to charge €650. They will not have the Gaeltacht experience, they will be sitting behind a computer screen for two weeks in their own homes. It doesn’t make a difference whether someone from the Gaeltacht is teaching them or an Irish teacher, as they will get no where near the same experience. They also will not be able to practice speaking to other students through Irish when they are not in classes. This makes no sense and should be provided to the already struggling students for free or a hugely discounted rate!

It is beyond belief that such a sum of money is being levied on trainee students, who i might add have no employment , no money and no prospect of earning it during a pandemic. Will someone in authority, with common sense act immediately and bear in mind that these students are already paying substantial money to do this course.

No one should be paying such a huge fee for an online trip to the gaeltacht when there is no rent to be paid to people for accommodation. Yes fees need to be paid but for 4 weeks online, €100 does not equate to 4 weeks rent.
