The reasoning behind this petition is so the people who are 18, 19, and 20 years old and already addicted to tobacco and nicotine products can still use. I believe that this age group should be grandfathered in to the recently added nicotine law, so that group of people is not just cut off from one of their everyday activities and left with nothing.

Example A: Someone born in 2003 (17 years old in 2020) would not be able to purchase those products until the year 2024 (when they turn 21) because they were not already 18 when the new nicotine law was enforced in 2020.

Example B: Someone born in 2001 (19 years old in 2020 when the new nicotine law was made) would still be able to purchase tobacco and nicotine products because they were of legal age before the state law was changed.

This way whenever the year 2024 comes around everyone who was already 18 years old in the year 2020 would then be 21 years old therefore eliminating the minors from buying tobacco and nicotine products which was the whole reasoning behind enforcing the 21+ law in the first place.

Example C: I was born in 2002 and I am 18 years old but because of this new nicotine law I am forced to wait 3 more additional years because the law has recently been changed saying “you have to be 21 years or older to purchase tobacco and nicotine products”.

So in conclusion: If you were born in 2002 you will be able to purchase tobacco and nicotine products. This law would only be effective for people born in the year 2002 and earlier. This law would go on until 2024 making itself obsolete.

I plan on sending this to the governors of Oklahoma (Mary Fallin and Kevin Stitt) to get this changed immediately with your help.
