For the past years, MCHS prom has been held at Germanna. However, due to the ocurance of some events, we are no longer allowed to use Germanna. This year, it was decided that prom would be held at Graves Mountain Lodge under the pavilion with rented Porta-Potties. This location is used throughout the year for local events, but would not be a convienent location for prom for the following reasons:

- It is quite a drive for some students and not a familiar route for others to drive

- There is very little/ no cell service at Graves which may be unsettling for some parents if they cannot contact their child if needed

- Prom will be in April which usually has a decent amount a rain throughout the month. A chance of rain would making driving more difficult and cause mud which would potentially ruin dresses, hair, makeup, shoes, etc. Along with the cosmetic side of things, porta-potties are unsanitary and are not convenient with long dresses.

- Graves would be cheap/free for prom and using the money the students helped raise would be a waste to use on porta-potties. Multiple students said they know local businesses that would be willing to donate to help support prom.

It was unfortunate that we are no longer able to use Germanna for prom and that there had to be a search for a new location. However, Graves was picked without any input from the student body or the parents. With this choice of venue, students would prefer the location be moved. There a ton of other nice, convenient, fair-priced venues in Madison as options for prom (even using the gyms or cafeterias in the schools would be an option).

I would ask that you sign this petition if you support a location change of prom to make it more enjoyable for everyone, especially the seniors since it's their last one!

(Also, no hate towards Graves! It's a beautiful location for local events such as festivals, but would not be the ideal location for prom!)

Thanks y'all!

We have 4 schools and definitely the gym at Wetsel can accommodate prom and after prom can be held in the gym at one of the other schools or at the High School. We as parents didnt have a problem back in the day having prom at our schools. Graves is too far out of the way and dangerous road in and out and not a right for for a prom!!!

I wouldnt want my child driving that road at night or where there is no cell service. I think the fire hall in Madison is a great choice if its not possible to use the school gym.

Prom needs to be indoors and not on dark windy roads with no cell phone service For emergencies. NOT SAFE, porta potties At a prom is ridiculous.

A cheap venue is okay but my question is the kids fund raise for prom to pay for the venue germanna wasn't free why did the school feel it necessary to find a free venue that is just not suitable for prom. These kids spend a lot of money on prom the ticket cost when I was in hs was high even this is just sad

Graves is fabulous for festivals however for prom not so much.. we were always able to make the gym a beautiful place when I was in school as well as my step daughter was there. What happened to communication with parents and students to have popular vote? that is more disappointing than the venue..

Graves is pretty but I don't think that it is the right setting for prom. May be just me but I don't particularly want to use a porta-Pottie with a long prom dress on

Graves is beautiful...but if you have prom at the school you could spend the money you save and have a blowout senior trip! Good luck!
