The welfare of children is paramount

38 children have been murdered by one of their parents since 2000 in the Republic of Ireland.The Mental Health Act 2001 is currently being reviewed by an expert group set up by the Junior Minister for Health Kathleen Lynch. The welfare of children is paramount when living with someone suffering with their mental health. I propose that the legislation in the Mental Health Act 2001 should be changed to involve spouses / partners in the treatment of their loved one without breaking patient confidentiality especially for the welfare of children.
