Family is family. Any student should be allowed to miss school for a family loss. They should be excused from it as well. You can't judge What family is without considering who and What their family consists of.

This policy is so wrong! Some people who are even just friends, can be just like family to a person. Please let up on this unjust policy!

I was the victim of some backward district policies that hindered my productivity in school when I was younger. It is the parent or guardian's place to call these kinds of situations.

In many families, 1st cousins are raised in such a tight knit environment that they ARE like brother and sister, biology be damned. This is an outrage that this is even an issue!
