At island school the girls are forced to wear clothing 2 inches above the knee in 90 degree heat. We only have 4 air conditioned rooms and some of the girls don't even have any classes in those rooms. We suffer and sweat all day long in our uncomfortable jeans. The reason why the school won't change the dress code is because it is destracting to boys, but that is sexist. The girls don't get to wear athletic clothes (yoga pants/leggings), but boys get to wear whatever they want. It's not fair for the girls who have to wear pants and jeans every day because we can't find shorts anywhere that fit the requirements (except surf shorts and we still kind of want to look like girls!) When we are hot and uncomfortable it is hard to concentrate and we aren't as productive as we could be otherwise.

Families pay a premium for their children's education at Island School. There is no excuse for not having air conditioned rooms. As for uniforms—is it a uniform or is it not? Shorts, yoga pants, jeans... Boys will be boys and we will never change that. That AC though...
Please let the students wear approximate clothing that is comformtable for them.
I think hot long jeans are probably very uncomfortable. How about light one piece jumpers in light but sturdy materials ? Just a thought.......
Unless a dress code is applied equally to all students, for example, all students must wear khaki pants and blue polo shirts, then a unilateral dress code addressing one gender will be a distraction to all. In addition, unfair to those who must labor under its conditions, i.e. the heat. This is a distraction to the girls' learning as much as short skirts are to boys learning.
The dress code is not teaching young girls to dress properly and be proud of their bodies. It's archaic and needs to be changed.
