It’s time for the Bullis Community, parents, teachers, students, donors and alumni to have your voices heard once again and seek change at Bullis.

We need a change in Bullis Board leadership to go with a change in the Head of School to protect the future wellbeing and integrity of our School. Many of you are aware of the bad decisions, conflicts of interest, lack of empathy for teachers, self-dealing, cover-ups of misdeeds and mismanagement of school funds by the Board and its leadership, but for those of you who are not, here are just some of the actions by this Board and its leadership, which should scare each and every one of you into seeking the change we desperately need in Bullis Board leadership.

• The Board failed to provide financial responsibility by allowing a greater than $5,000,000 overrun on the building of the Discovery Center, and was built by the company that Board Chair Patrick Caulfield owns. These costs get passed onto parents in form of tuition increases.
• The School continues to lose money each last few years.
• Under the current Board Leadership, school enrollment is down, fundraising is down, teachers have been forced to cut much needed programs and yet the Board has spent over a $1,000,000- again in much needed school funds- to settle claims against the School for unlawful terminations and harassment complaints.
• The Board Chair secretly negotiated agreement allowing Natasha Phelps to have her two children continue to go to Bullis totally free! For rest of their time at Bullis, they pay no tuition. And additionally she received a substantial severance package
• Boarman authorized paying for Natasha children education in North Carolina while she was working for Bullis in Potomac and he purchased a home in DC area for her to rent.

• Caulfield created another conflict of interest by hiring his own corporate attorney to investigate and advise Board leadership and the Board on claims against the School and himself.
• Caulfield has overseen the investigations and secret settlements of claims against Boarman and the School. The cost of these investigations, settlements and excessive benefits exceed $1,000,000.
• Caulfield settled these claims without informing the full Board , nor informing the insurance company, which resulted in the insurance company dropping Bullis as an insured. A new carrier was then put in place with heavy influence by outside party.

• Multiple complaints have been filed by other Board members and parents, with Board and the Governance Committee about Board Chair, but to date, no proper investigation has been performed and shared with the Board members. We are told the Board leadership relied on advice provided by an attorney Caulfield has used for business (see above conflict of interest). The claims include inappropriate comments towards Bullis community members as well as actions identified above.

How can this Board properly guide this School when they have constantly held themselves and School leadership to a level below the level all students, teachers and staff are held to?

How many teachers, staff and students have been suspended and or dismissed for actions far less than those actions committed by Board Leadership and Boarman.

We need a change now so the new Head of School can start the next phase of the Bullis way without the baggage of the past actions by Board Leadership.
