Immaculate High School recently made decisions about scheduling for the 2017-18 school year. The decisions made include changes that drastically change senior year scheduling plans for students. Immaculate High School has made a required elective called "Senior Seminar" that will teach students personal finance skills and health/wellness. This class is a CP class which is weighted much less on the student's gpa than an honors or AP class. In some cases, this class will bring down the GPA for students who take all AP and honors classes. Immaculate High School encourages students to challenge themselves and try new things, however this takes away that opportunity to take challenging classes and electives. Student should who plan to take certain classes will now have to change their plans because of conflicts. This "Senior Seminar" takes away an extra period seniors typically get which they use to take an extra study hall or double up on a certain subject they have interest in. For example, a student who wants to take both AP Physics and AP Biology cannot because their elective period is being taken up by the required "Senior Seminar." Immaculate also made the decision to make gym required for only 2 years meaning Juniors and Seniors will not have to take gym. In the previous years, seniors were the only students who did not have to take gym giving them a study hall everyday. This new change will give the Juniors more study hall time than the seniors, because of the "Senior Seminar." Even though many students expressed interest in an elective that would help with real life skills such as personal finance. There are many students who had other plans for their senior year. It is good to have the option, but as previously stated making it a required course is detrimental to those who take advanced classes that benefit their GPA.

Immaculate High School wants to also start a daily rotating schedule. This means that classes will be 55 minutes instead of the current 40 minutes and everyday we will drop two classes. This means that students won't have every class everyday which have a bad effect on their daily routines. For example, any student who takes a language will not be getting daily practice. Daily practice of a language or any subject, is crucial for students. In some cases, a student may not have a class for 3 or 4 days in row, because of weekends. Immaculate needs to stick with their current schedule arrangement which includes 8 periods with 40 minutes classes, giving them daily practice of each class, and seniors should not have a required elective that hurts their GPA
