The goal of this petition is to change Lindenwood's rule on first offense positive drug testing results. As the rule is stated now any student athlete that test's positive for any in-house drug test for the school they are penalized with a 365 day suspension from any competition in any sport at Lindenwood University. This harsh penalty was adopted from the NCAA's policy on positive drug test results. No other school in the nation has such a harsh policy on their athletes and it is believed that more harm than good is done by such a strict rule. Most other school's allow for the athlete to go into counseling after the first offense as well as random drug screening for the next academic year. If that person does fail another screening they then are suspended from academic competition. This harsh rule does not give the athlete a chance to learn from their mistake and give back to their community by still competing but just solely punishes them for their positive test with no guidance toward resolving the problem or growing from the experience.
