The city finally reversed the ordinance and we can bring our displays back outside. I am drained from the months spent fighting this but the relief is genuine. We will keep watching to ensure they do not try to change the rules again.

I spent the afternoon talking to other shop owners who are just as drained by these restrictions as I am. It is hard to keep pushing when the walls feel like they are closing in, but seeing your feedback keeps me moving forward.

As a business owner here that has been affected by this, I would say that it will affect businesses negatively. Already I have had to take in flags that help draw in customers.
As a small business owner in the downtown Ocala area, I support the change of the ordinance. Some of the code enforcement rules make it impossible to let the public know we are "Open for Business."
I am a small business owner in downtown Ocala and see a huge difference in traffic flow without putting any merchandise outside. Changing this ordinance would help small businesses tremendously.
The city should be finding way to support our small businesses, not way to close them. Outdoor displays are great advertisements for the stores who may not be able to afford the cost of published advertisements. Plus, even large chain stores have sidewalk sales.
The small business owners have enough rules and regs. It was the small business owner that started our Large Take Over businesses. Don't smother them anymore than you already have.

i think the older version of the ordinance needs to change. Under the original ordinance only new items can be displayed, meaning used items that some people can only afford are discriminated upon.
