Drexel is one of many American universities that use a Blackboard system for online learning management. However it is questioned how effectively the tools provided by the Blackboard learn are used by Drexel students. Drexel faculty and students often express frustration about their daily use of Bbvista. The most common problems they are faced everyday are the mostly technical issues, organization system and lack of the ability to be a friendly user. A group of Drexel students conducted surveys and interviews to find more about these general concerns. Due to this research it was found out that statistically two out of three students use Google chrome, one of the browsers you can’t use Blackboard Vista with. Also the pop-up window checking is a major issue. Nearly 91% of users that took the survey said that they despise the wait to close the pop up every time they log in. Another problem that slows the pace of the student learning lifestyle is the fact that Blackboard Vista doesn’t allow you to open more than one tab at a time. If a student wants to check two subjects or more at the same time, he or she will have to use two different browsers. About 81% of the Drexel students polled said this irritated them and made completing assignments in Blackboard Vista an annoyance (“Bb Vista for Drexel University”). Another of these most obvious problems is that almost every user from Drexel has experienced unfavourable effects of Vista's automatic logout. Despite this looks as a good protecting policy at first sight this is basically another nuisance tool that doesn’t allow students calmly read long essays. Also the discussion section is irritable for students. You can’t read more than one post at a time and you can’t also read the whole discussion. This way of organizing posts doesn’t permit you to read all the replies at a time. Nearly 76% of the students surveyed uttered that they want Bbvista to change. The pace of a student’s life is really fast, especially when they are dealing with different projects, home-works and subjects at the same time. They definitely want something that adapts their lifestyle and this is definitely a slow nonuser-friendly system that they will have to use multiple times a day. Most of the students state that they are paying enough money in their tuition to deserve a better online learning system. If we want bbvista to change and be more useful we all should contribute to make this change. By signing this petition your voice will be heard.
