George Clark and the Albertans First group want 80,000 signatures on a petition to overthrow the wishes of more than 600,000 people who elected the current provincial government.

Borrowing from the brilliant 2000 Rick Mercer Stockwell/Doris Day campaign, the Riled Woes Party would like to show Clark why that kind of petition might not be the best way to an informed government.

Let's see how many Albertans we can get to support changing the name of Mr. Clark's group from Albertans First to the Almond Joy Party.

Why?

First, because all the provincial parties are made of Albertans, so this will avoid any confusion.

Second, because a different party actually came first in the 2015 Alberta provincial election.

Third, because almonds can use the good press in times when drought conditions in almond-growing regions make them seem like a bad bet. Not unlike bids to overthrow an elected government in times when no-one else seems to have a good plan.

Fourth, because Almond Joy is a popular nut bar. And, yes, we know almonds are not actually nuts; they are drupes. But George Clark isn't anybody's drupe.
