In January 1987, the recovered remains of Space Shuttle Challenger were transported to abandoned Launch Complex 31/32 on Cape Canaveral Air (Force) Station, where they were sealed in two 80-foot deep Minuteman missile silos and adjacent underground equipment rooms. The remains are expected to be stored there indefinitely.

With the last of the Shuttle flights having taken place in July 2011 it is felt that now is the time, before it is too late, to create something special, something that will last, something that our Nation can be proud of........ an artificial living reef, into which the remains of Challenger can be entombed for eternity.

A reef that those who helped to create it can visit with pride.

The Challenger Reef Petition

I am proposing to involve ALL school children in America.Together they can be an effective Pressure Group, petitioning our government and our president to have the remains of the Space Shuttle Challenger arranged in the water off the coast the Kennedy Space Center as a Living Reef in Memory of our Fallen Heroes.

By involving our children they will better understand what happened that sunny day in January 1986.

As they begin to understand theywill feel a tremendous sense of pride knowing they are part of history in the making! By having them sign, (in their very best penmanship) a document that will be held by the school for future reference. They will proudly feel responsible for the reef's existence.

A National sense of pride that, every time we look at a map anywhere in the world, we will see not only Titusville and KSC, We will see Challenger Reef as a National Memorial Monument till the end of time!!

Even if it takes two or three years to see this project come to fruition it will be well worth it!

Benefits:

1. The Children will be asking Mom and Dad to not only visit Orlando's Attractions, but to visit The Challenger Reef. NASA will benefit through perhaps millions of new Challenger Reef Member visitors

2. Millions of new visitors will create thousands of new jobs.
