We are Nottingham Citizens for SANCTUARY an alliance of citizen, faith and refugee groups committed to working together to pursue the recommendations of the Independent Asylum Commission at a local level. There are nearly 2000 people living in Nottingham who are seeking sanctuary having fled persecution in their country of origin. The UK Border Agency requires them to travel all the way to Loughborough which is a 32 mile round journey in order to report their presence in the country. No one seeking sanctuary is allowed to work and some of them receive no financial support whatsoever, yet they are still expected to get to Loughborough on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. These reporting requirements cause serious difficulties and hardship for people seeking sanctuary, especially vulnerable individuals such as the disabled, sick and elderly people, as well as pregnant women and women with children. Citizens for SANCTUARY believe that the current reporting requirements are unacceptable. WE WANT LOCAL REPORTING FOR LOCAL PEOPLE!

32 miles is a joke. the system is set up to make them fail. get it together and fix the reporting location.
