We, the undersigned, do hereby express our support and encouragement for the Florida Legislature to take up the issue of oversight for the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) and we call for the expedient passage of said oversight and transparency requirements during the organizational session to take place prior to year’s end. Such a policy would create significant and much needed reform and oversight for our state by immediately requiring BP and GCCF to include a qualified liaison that can hold the “independent” process accountable. In the process of providing transparency not just to the State of Florida but also to the Funds claimants, providing clear information about process and methodology. The liaison would report to the Florida Economic Task Force, Florida’s Governor, the Florida Attorney General and the Florida’s Chief Financial Officer. Mediation. Should a victim of the oil spill believe that he or she was not treated fairly by the GCCF; each person could elect to participate in a mediation process, where the cost for this process would be borne by the GCCF. In that process each party would have the opportunity to sit down across the table from each other in the presence of a qualified mediator and present their respective positions. Only through a better process will Floridians’ be able to put this catastrophe behind them and return to their respective business and continue to recovery process. We thank you for your support of this initiative. The time has come to hold both BP and the GCCF accountable. Let your voice be heard. Citizens for BP Accountability
