We are petitioning for the right to receive 2 graduating certificates for the completion of our

1. Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) and

2. The Master of Optometry

Currently, we are to receive only one certificate for the completion of 2 degrees.

The initial admission into Flinders University’s Optometry Degree only guarantees you entry into the Bachelor aspect of the degree. To make it into Masters degree is another requirement, which some students don’t make, or don’t wish to make. This allows them to graduate with their Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) and receive a certificate for this completion. Students who have been successful in the admission to the Masters, complete an additional 2 years (including research time), and still only receive one certificate.

A Masters degree is granted at a postgraduate level, which indicates the successful completion of an undergraduate degree, to which a certificate of completion should be awarded.

Considering the two step process and format in completion of the Optometry degree, we are asking for recognition of these two separate entities by the award of two certificates.
