To whom it may concern,

We are writing with the object in mind to ask the Jordan School district to please consider sponsoring Sra. Cerezo so that she may stay longer than her current visa and continue to teach at Welby Elementary. We wanted to let you know that the idea of offering visas to the international teachers who come from other countries to give our students the experience to be taught the language is a great idea. Some of the teachers who would like to stay longer should have that opportunity. They are here in the country and after three years that have been able to really learn and settle into the teaching to be able to even become better teachers.

Sra. Cerezo has been an incredible teacher to many of our children at Welby. As the children have come into the first grade she has helped them to have a love of the Spanish language and the confidence to begin to speak the language. Sra. Cerezo can take a room full of 6 and 7 years old’s who have very little knowledge, if any, of the Spanish language and help the students have the confidence that they will begin to understand and learn Spanish. The students quickly start to pick up on the vocabulary and grow in their understanding of the language. Some parents have had the privilege of having Sra. Cerezo teach several of their children as younger children have also entered the Spanish Dual Immersion Program. Other parents hope that their younger children will also have the opportunity to be taught by Sra. Cerezo. She has an effective teaching style and she works well to help the parents know what we can do to encourage our students learning at home. She helps parents, both who speak Spanish and those who do not. Also, she and Mrs. Torres, the English teacher for the first grade at Welby, have done a great job setting up a system working as a team to teach these young first graders at they begin their educational experience.

Additionally, Sra. Cerezo is a great asset to the school beyond teaching in the classroom. This is her second year being involved in the Welby Lego Robotics Team as one of the coaches. She has given much of her and her talents in teaching to the families at Welby Elementary. It would be a great privilege for the school to be able to have Sra. Cerezo have her visa extended so that we may be able to help our future children who will be a part of the Dual Immersion program at Welby Elementary and all the students who are on the First Lego Robotics team.

Thank you for your time, and considering her to receive the H1B visa.

Respectfully, parents and families of Welby Elementary,

Updates

September 20, 2017

I am currently consolidating the parent testimonials into a formal briefing packet for the Jordan School District human resources department. This documentation will be presented to district leadership during our upcoming meeting to demonstrate the specific impact Sra. Cerezo has on the dual immersion program.

This is such a great program and Sra. Cerezo is an amazing teacher. Please extend her visa. She taught both of my grandchildren in first grade at Welby Elementary.

I have the honor of working with Ana. She is wonderful. She also has taught two of my own children and they love her.

I too am a DLI teacher and my youngest was lucky enough to have many teachers that have come from other countries to teach. We as teachers are always looking for qualified teachers to teach our Dual language learners.

Please keep good teachers at Welby! It takes a little while to get a system down in the dual immersion program and with the rotation off teachers, it seems there is a learning curve every year. The students would really benefit by having an established teacher.

We love Sra. Cerezo! She has played an instrumental part in our children's educations. There are so many wonderful things to say about her. We feel lucky that our children have had her as their Spanish Immersion teacher and would hope that others will get that same opportunity.

Sra. Cerezo is such an amazing teacher and a wonderful asset to our school. My 6 year old comes home every day with a smile and new phrases and words in Spanish. He is learning so much. Sra. Cerezo gives these kids such a great foundation for them to love learning Spanish. Please allow her the opportunity to stay.

DLI teachers are so important! What adds to their value is some experience. When you have a DLI teacher that stays beyond the first two years, it increases the experience for all!
