Once again, CVA's administrators refuse to allow their students the tiniest amount of freedom. Your entire outfit is chosen for you when you walk at graduation. There's only one way for students to have any form of self expression and the school crushes it thoughtlessly because of a "what-if".
This petition addresses each concern you've listed, except it allows the possibility for changes to be made to the caps after approval. If people want to decorate their caps, they should have to leave them with the appropriate official and receive them before walking when the honors ropes are handed out, so there's no opportunity for modification.
If your class advisors are as amazing as school PR claims, they'd consider taking on the small responsibility of approving a cap to allow students one little bonus after 12 years of effort to make it on that stage. Just a thought from a CVA graduate who's still pissed he wasn't able to decorate his cap.

My high school was allowed to do that and I think it will show the creative side in every student in the class.

This is a joke when I graduated high school which was right down the road at whitesboro then college at Herkimer we got to do our caps how we wanted

I tried to sign the petition and received this comment, "We're sorry your signature cannot be recorded at this time. Please contact [email protected] for further assistance," So I will put my comment here and hope it makes a difference.
"As each person has purchased their cap and gown it is theirs to do as they wish. As they have already graduated they are no longer students and the school should not have the right to stop them from walking. They don't do it for the school, they do it for themselves and their family. As long as there isn't any profanity involved I seen nothing wrong with them decorating their cap, after all it is THEIR cap!!"

I graduated many moons ago, we did everything from throwing beach ball around, decorating caps etc. The students, or parents pay for them, as long as they don't use vulgarity or something bad in taste, let the kids enjoy their day.

The students have the freedom of expression and they should be able to decorate their caps. These students have worked for 13 or more years to get here. They needed to take a government class to learn their rights. You show them the rights that they have and you're also showing them the rights that you are taking away from them. Amendment 2 allows you to have the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression. All your students want is to exercise the rights that you showed them they have. Don't take their rights away. It's not like they are asking for a lot. They just want to decorate the top of their graduation caps to prove that they are all individual. You have them wear the same outfit act the same way do the same things. Everyone is different and that's the only way to show the diversity your schools has.

I am a 2014 CVA alumni and my class was also not allowed to decorate caps. I think a student should be allowed to express himself/herself! It's their day; they deserved it!

These kids work so hard and it's a day to celebrate that. They have an entire lifetime to be professional I don't think it needs to matter during a celebration of all the years of hard work and dedication. Let them be KIDS that day.
