We, the underlined students of Glenfield College 2011, petition to the Board of Trustees to have permission to have cell phone use for a one month trial period, where if any text-bullying occurs within the school for this month we agree to not having this permission. And afterwards, if text bullying occurs more than three times in a term permission can also be removed. We feel that this is a serious matter and some students may take a student strike if the Board of Trustees refuse to have a serious discussion about this, and approve the trial period of a month. We feel a simple month is a fair amount of time to see whether something works and will give a good guide to the board for their following meeting to discuss whether to continue the new guideline.

We see that Westlake Girls have this permission, and feel that the jealousy should be dealt with. The board should see that it is sucessful at Westlake Girls, a school of higher decile and student number then us. If text bullying is going to occur it will happen either way and not allowing students to use cell phones will not stop them. This makes it more convenient for teachers as they don't have to monitor student areas as hard looking for them being used, students don't have to stress too much about losing them and then having to contact parents in an emergency, and more convenient for parents as they don't have to collect the phones as regularly. We also agree to looking after them as our own property, not relying on school to find them if they're lost. We realise that the school should know if we have to contact our parents, and agree to a letter being sent to parents advising them that students need a slip to leave school.
