Dear Indian Community Friends,
Diwali, also called Deepavali, is a major Indian festival that is very significant in Indian community Known as the "Festival of Lights". Diwali/Deepavali is celebrated by the people of all faiths in India and Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Newar Buddhists across globe to mark different historical events and stories. They symbolize the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, hope over despair. Usually fireworks are associated with the festival.
This letter is for the city administrations to allow fireworks during the Diwali/Deepavali celebration and to allow Indian community to enjoy the festival with fireworks of State Fire Marshal “Safe and Sane” seal.
Folsom city has already providing the permission since 2007, here is the Folsom City website link

In 2009 for the first time Diwali festival celebrated at White House by the US President Barak Obama.

If city administration allows fireworks for other celebrations during the year then it is unfairness against the people who celebrate Diwali/Deepavali festival by people of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Newar Buddhist communities. We are looking between the hours of 12 p.m. on Wednesday November 7th through 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 15th.

The emails I receive from city offices are often vague or dismissive regarding our request for safe and sane firework traditions. It is exhausting to keep repeating the same facts to people who seem unwilling to listen yet I remain convinced that our culture deserves this recognition. I am spending my evenings drafting follow up requests to push this forward.

Diwali is a special festival that celebrates light and love, bringing the community together. Request the city to allow celebration similar to other special occasions.
The Indian festival of Diwali, more popularly known as the festival of lights is celebrated with much fun and fare by the people of east Indian origin, through out the world. It is considered one of the most joyous occasion where people get together and celebrate with safe and sane fireworks and lighting of lamps.
We want to feel that we are also a part the community in this well diverse county. Like Christmas, this is a very important and religious festival for Indians. Folsom City already has passed the bill to allow fireworks.
It is the largest festival in India and with so many Indians in greater Sacramento area, a responsible handling of fireworks should bring a lot of fun!
Diwali is largest festival getting celebrated through out the world just like Christmas. There are thousands & thousands Indians are living in greater sac area. To celebrate Diwali with firecrackers will boost cultural morale of our kids & young generation. Please do support us. Thank you

Respected Member, For the celebration of a major Indian festival Diwali, we would request you to grant the permission to celebrate the festival adhering to the safety and other requirements.
