I was just informed by one of the family members of the deceased that THEY are expected to pay for relocation! That is utterly ridiculous... (on top of all the other stress and confusion about this issue).

Proper notification (i.e. reaching out via certified mail or some other way) should have been given. Let those who are deceased rest in peace.

Keep reading families were informed but then seeing the opposite. More needs to be communicated to those it's "directly" impacting before further work is done.

It is obsurd to even think of moving someone's loved one from their final resting place. Have a little more respect for those who have passed

I grew up in Fairfield and spend alot of my childhood in Cedar Fort I would hate to see any graves moved at all please reconsider.

I've heard both -- that there weren't meetings and that there were. Irregardless, none of that gave any notice to the heirs of these buried individuals. There are better ways to handle this. I so loved the flyer that someone pulled out from a community cemetery beautification project in 1988 -- when my dad was "volunteer" mayor of Cedar Fort.

Most of the comments I am seeing here completely miss the point. Local politics have a procedure just like state and federal levels. Where were all these outraged individuals during the MULTIPLE town meetings and town hearings before this? If an individual refuses to participate in local politics and just hopes a magic facebook button will fix everything... perhaps that individual’s involvement should be more present at earlier times in the political process. Just because the town was founded in the 1850s doesn’t mean that our mindsets should stay there.

Having been to MANY of the meetings leading up to this personally, I agree! Hearing the REASONS for the change instead of freaking out over gossip helped me make an informed decision and let my voice be heard AT THE MEETINGS and HEARINGS!

This may come as a surprise to some people, but each plot of a cemetery is not a sovereign nation that you can do whatever you please! I have been to the cemetery in the past couple days and it looks like a project is happening. Simple as that. Has nobody ever seen construction before??? It doesn't look perfect on day one, and maybe not even on day twenty, but progress is made. To those crying about desecration of graves (which is not happening) and keeping it a small town (yup, still is, just with some rules and guidelines so you can't do whatever you darn well please like it was in the past), would you like to volunteer to help keep the cemetery looking nice? Did you research the policy to actually see what was happening instead of jumping on the hearsay train? Most likely not.

If this has been approved, shame on the city council and the Mayor for approving a two lane road through the cemetery that affects established graves and headstones when no widening of the road is needed, Cedar Fort needs a new Mayor just like the country needed a new president! (and we got one!)
