It is important to me that trans and intersex youth are treated with the respect they deserve and are not discriminated against for their gender.

My name is Ross Owen and I attend CCA and have personally witnessed these acts on myself, and my fellow trans/non-binary/intersex students by both the staff and the students. Our basic rights are worth more, always worth more, than that of the comfort of cisgender students.

This kind of stuff I didn't know went on, however what I did know is that in Choir all of the songs were about a Christian God only. Ex: Anchor My Soul into Christ .I dropped the class with a few other student because of this issue but as soon as I left all of the songs were immediately replaced with modern songs that had no religious affiliation. So I can imagine them changing their perspective and have better undestanding of other students and being able to accomodate their personal needs .

I have personally witnessed these excuses and behaviors when I attended this institution, and I believe this HAS to be fixed. No excuses are acceptable. Trans, non-binary, and gender fluid lives matter just as much as cisgender lives.

Clear Creek Amana came very close to being the name on my diploma, and in light of this situation I am very thankful it was not. I'd like to see the school brought into compliance with state and federal law by any means necessary so that I might feel some pride associated with my time at CCAHS.
