The current policy of having an annual background check of graduate students makes NO SENSE!!! Faculty don't have to do it. Nor do graduate students at any other institution, e.g., even our sister campus. I have not heard even one good reason for why this policy should be in place!! Lets face it if we need to have a background check every 12 months, should we be doing it every 6 months?

I believe that institutional efforts should be geared towards decreasing rather than increasing the regulatory burden on staff, trainees, and faculty. This particular measure will increase that burden and disenfranchise our students (and harm recruitment). It also seems to propose a 'solution' to a non-existent 'problem'.

Graduate students are indispensable to research programs at OUHSC and this policy will cripple efforts to recruit top students. Our research mission will be damaged by this policy and OUHSC will be less competitive for funding without quality students. That is a HUGE downside for such a small upside to this policy.

I agree with all of the issues raised. In addition, why is an annual CBC needed? At most, once should be sufficient. As an OUHSC faculty member, I underwent a CBC upon hiring, and have not had to do so since. Requiring an annual CBC is ridiculous.

The policy is indeed onerous and unnecessary for people with no access to patients or HPI. The policy should be consistent for all students in a similar situation across campuses.
