Dear Office of Institutional Advancement and Board of Trustees Members,

This letter is a message from the National Alumni members of Clark Atlanta University. As such, we care deeply about CAU and are ready to commit time and resources to ensure the future of this historic institution.

We are extremely concerned by the impending elections for national officers as many alumni are questioning the transparency of the current process.

The Indicators of these concerns are:

  • Absence of transparent communication to all alumni
  • Lack of current and accurate updated alumni database
  • Lack of a clear and concise and compliant call to nominations
  • Lack of a clear and concise voting Instructions
  • Compliant operations

We are asking for a cease and desist of the upcoming elections until all of our concerns are addressed.

We give our vote of “no confidence” to CAUAA National Alumni elections process. The restructuring of the election process is necessary, inevitable, and very long overdue.

As CAU alumni, we understand the weight that comes with being a volunteer board member and we empathize that some of the concerns may be because of inefficiency or oversight; but at this point in time we must make changes to the process. We must run a more efficient, effective and engaging national alumni association.

Providing transparency to the process will ensure that all alumni can have confidence in who would be leading them.

We expect the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Board of Trustees to assume accountability for the addressing the concerns above.

We believe that the listed actions constitute the first steps in the process of CAU National Alumni election stabilization. As alumni, we are ready to commit time and effort to monitor and support the implementation of these steps through a meeting and discussions with the Office of Institutional Advancement and Board Members.

In case of lack of adequate response by the Office of Institutional Advancement and Board of Trustees and of effective resolution as demanded above by April 23, 2018, CAU alumni are determined to initiate the following actions:

- Withdraw financial and non-financial alumni support from CAU, through the CAUAA;
- Inform and engage all University affiliates.
- Engage in other actions to resolve the concerns.

We are confident that the Office of Institutional Advancement and Board of Trustees of CAU will find the strength and will to perform the necessary actions, because no university board has ever been able to function without the support of its key constituencies.

Let’s restore trust in the process before we decide who is going to lead us through the next two years.

As a candidate in the election I can attest to this being a flawed process. It is not being done independently and I have found the company hired to head the election process is engaged with the Committee on a daily basis. Independent means free from outside control; not depending on another's authority; not influenced or affected by others; impartial. This is not the case of this entire process.

The nominations guidelines for the 2018 election of CAUAA officers (just posted) has not been voted on by the body. I believe this is against the constitution and/or bylaws. It is asking candidates to adhere to the nomination guidelines in 2018 for what is supposed to be voted upon.
