Cathedral Prep has had uniforms for since 1921; it is a tradition to the school to be in dress pants, dress shirt and tie. I think that the school dress code should be dropped permanently. Facts against the school dress code. Wearing uniforms has nothing to do with academics; dressing in uniforms does not improve academics. School uniforms inhibit student’s individuality. Young people often express their feelings through the clothing that they wear. Uniforms will take away this form of expression. A school uniform policy inhibits a student's freedom of choice. Schools teach students that our country is a free one. But when school boards make students wear what they tell them too-- it curtails the students' freedom. Uniforms can cost more money than these families might be able to afford. Also, these students would need to buy additional clothing to wear after school and on the weekends. That's double the amount of money a family would spend than they would without the uniforms. Students can be more comfortable in own style of clothes therefore helping to pay attention. These are the reasons against uniforms at Cathedral Prep.
