Manhattan Beach should commemorative this "granddaddy" of all paddleboard races in the world and cement it's legacy of rich beach culture and ocean sports.

Growing up here, and watching the race has been an important part of the South Bay community. I’ve completed the race three times, and I’ve never felt so much support and good will. It’s a unique tradition that goes largely under the radar to non surfers/paddlers; it’s about time to recognize such a proud tradition, DP

I photographed the model and team that designed and built it. This will be a beloved statue when it's put in place by The pier.

Growing up in the South Bay - any waterman and waterwomen I looked up to had completed the classic. It always seemed like an impossible task...until I did it! 3 down, many more crossings to go. Major respect to the history of this race and anyone who has completed the crossing!

Hello,
This race is an amazing feat for all of the women and men that have competed in it. This statue will inspire girls and boys in the future to train hard, overcome fears and obstacles which are great life skills. It certainly helped me!

In my youth I remember Tommy Zahn
And Mike bright being winners in the early years . It great fun to watch them finish at the Manhattan pier in the late 50’s
