- Idina Menzel originated the role of Elphaba Thropp in the musical Wicked, which opened on Broadway in 2003. Rumours of a movie version of this musical have been circulating for years. Idina Menzel who is now almost 50 has mentioned numerous times that she would like to reprise her role in the film. Many argue that her age will negatively impact the movie, however, with modern technology and a large and loyal fanbase, her casting is unlikely to harm it’s success.
