- Idina Menzel originated the role of Elphaba Thropp in the musical Wicked, which opened on Broadway in 2003. Rumours of a movie version of this musical have been circulating for years. Idina Menzel who is now almost 50 has mentioned numerous times that she would like to reprise her role in the film. Many argue that her age will negatively impact the movie, however, with modern technology and a large and loyal fanbase, her casting is unlikely to harm it’s success.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you feel the same way about this. Seeing so many people agree is not something I ever imagined would happen when I first put this together. This momentum is entirely because of you and your passion for Idina.

if they can literally turn people into cats, then they can definitely help make a 49 year old look younger
It's clear that she still got what it takes to play Elphaba and yet in just age reason, she won't be able to play the role. What's the use of modern technology? CGI
She originated that role and She deserves to be in the Movie. Wicked is not wicked without the wickedly talented “Idina Menzel”. Thank You for the person who created this petition.
Please let her be the Elphaba in the Movie. If anyone else plays it, we, the theatre kids WILL NOT WATCH THE MOVIE EVER. We don’t care about the age. She literally voiced Elsa who is about the same age as Elphie so pleas cast her. Thank You.
Idina is the only elphaba. It was her role. After she left all the other people had a chance at playing it. Now it's hers.
