I have a classic 1977 Porsche. It failed for the first time in it's 37 year old life, not because the car is "dirtier" but because the laws have become so strict that older and classic cars can no longer reasonably pass. It is unfair that I should be forced to pay upwards of $500 each time I have to pass smog for equipment that was not standard at the time of issue on my vehicle. Further, the crushing of a car is a larger tax on the environment than the tiny amount of emissions they expel. I like most classic car owners only drive my car less than 1,000 miles per year. I think there should be a rolling 30 year smog excemption!

There are very little of these cars on the road. There value goes up after 30 years having them smog exempt helps resale value and has little to no effect on smog.

Thirty year old cars are no spring chcken. "Pollution factory" don't last long without an overhaul. It does not make sense for the state to subsidize the removal of a negligible contributor to air pollution. Older vehicles help stimulate thought and innovation by Californians through restoration and modification.

its not fair to have 30 plus years old cars get smog checks when parts become harder and harder to find to maintain the cars....

How about petitions for diesel exemptions, modifications reducing emissions, and exemptions for people who only work in the state?

I have an 1986 Nissan hardbody pickup, it has 315K miles, and I drive less than 5k miles a year. I have no issues passing emissions, but my engine is worn, and Is getting very very costly to find parts for. I would LOVE to install a JDM engine from a newer frontier, but it would be a living hell to deal with the referees. The emissions on this is ridiculous its cleaner than any V8 in new cars today!
