Greetings from your neighbors Robert and Angelia Lee. I know we just met, but we need a favor. :)

We boughtthis home last spring and recently had a carport installed. After completion we were notifiedthat the carport structure on our property hadn't been properly permitted. This is the first time we have ever installed a structure like this and because it doesn’t add square footage to the house we didn’t consider needing a permit. As such, we're seeking a permit from theCity of Lubbock Building Inspection, and your signature will help our application.

THE PROBLEM: A permanent structure needs to be built 25ft from the property line. That would have placed the carport in the middle of our front yard. We had it placed directly over the existing driveway. This is comparable to a number of other carports I've documented in our neighborhood, so it is not unprecedented.

Removing the carport will be costly and lower the value of our home. We're asking for your signature in support of us asking that the city let us leave our carport intact.

We have enjoyed living in this neighborhood. We are retired and plan to remain here. We're very thankful to be able to buy a home in what we feel like is one of central Lubbock's last affordable, diverse neighborhoods, and intend to do everything we can to support and improve it.
