Separating quickly from the network, resources, and expertise of a state-affiliated university system in the interest of local control and independence appears as if it would further community politics more than it would benefit the quality of the education provided to the students. Transitioning from the current state affiliation to a community college model should be carefully planned and well thought-out in execution to ensure success and promised improvement; failure would leave the community without a local option for higher learning and be an immediate disservice to the students who currently attend or are planning to attend in the near future.

It's vital to keep a local college here in Carlsbad. The college typical engages people from across the community, whether it is 20-somethings earning their associate's degree or attending nursing classes, or motivated high school students who are taking early college classes, or children participating in summer enrichment courses, or even mature, life-long learners taking classes in retirement. To stay competitive with other communities like Hobbs and Roswell, it's critical to support, fund, and plan for the growth of college-level education here in Carlsbad.

I believe our community would be best served and able to add classes that are pertinent to us, by taking back out college.
