No one should be expected to do something that goes against their beliefs. We have freedom of speech, religion ect. How would you feel getting something forced on you that you were against. If this class is required, I can guarantee you will see a big decline in staff and students. Thank you.

I am (probably surprisingly, to people who know me) somewhat disappointed in this petition. Firstly and probably most importantly, I believe we're all acting a little too quickly without enough information. There is a lot more to the story than just what is written in the Enquirer. Secondly, I want to draw attention to the fact that the LGBTQ aspect of the revamping comes in 9th grade health, which is a class that is already mandatory. Also, the intention of the LGBTQ addition is not to tell everyone that that way of life is correct or even okay with everyone, but simply to teach proper vocabulary, which I feel is important for everyone regardless of beliefs. Thirdly, the junior class entitled Career Prep is oriented around decision-making, healthy relationships, and future planning. While some students and parents may feel like they are comfortable with their skills in these areas and have taught their kids properly, there is a huge percentage of kids at Lakeview who have parents who have not done so. The problem here is that it is too difficult to determine which kids need the class more than others without being biased, so the class must be mandatory. My biggest piece of encouragement for all who read this, students and parents, is to get as much information as you can, don't spread false information simply out of frustration, and be patient with administration. Though it may seem like they don't care about students, they really don't make these decisions lightly.

As a parent I do not want my children required to take this course at school as I feel my husband and I have these discussions with our children already. We would much rather have the flexibility for our child to take another course that we see best meets their area of growth. We understand there are some students where this class would be a great idea. We hope it is reconsidered to no longer be a requirement but offered as an elective instead.

We feel it is up to parents to educate their children on these things. It is not the schools responsibility and we do not agree that it should be mandatory. However, if there is a desire, it should be made an elective class.

This class shouldn't be mandatory because it takes up space in students schedules where they could be putting classes that will be important to their future. The schedule is already tight enough since switching to trimesters. Electives are still important.

I think that this class will make students uncomfortable, and that is why it should be optional. Also, if you take out the sex part of it, then you don't even need the class. Surviving on your own and Choices are classes for this. Thank you for taking the time to listen to the public.

Students should not be forced into this class. It's fine if student choose to learn about these things from a teacher, but it should be taught at the home. And there will be too many students and parents refusing this class

As a recent Lakeview Alumnist and future educator, I can appreciate Lakeview's effort to be more inclusive and diverse. However, I do not believe this class should be manditory. Aside from the fact that it may not be appropriate for every student to study LGBT relationships, it is most certainly not a career prep subject. I personally don't believe that it is appropriate to group this with other more relevant career-prep topics.
LGBT relationships and such can have their own class. But personally I would not want to take this class. Regardless of whether or not a student want to take this class, it may be argued that it is necessary to teach tolerance and educate on different relationships. However, I do not believe that the class should be MANDATORY. Parents all over the school district are wildly uncomfortable with this, frankly, rash decision, but also students. In the spirit of teaching tolerance and consideration, I believe that the LGBT portion of the class should be an optional elective. Many students would feel very uncomfortable in the class and exposed. I don't believe that the goal of school district is to impose discomfort, bullying, ignorance or a less productive learning environment. But I do believe all of these things could be a significant product of this class being deemed manditory. While I believe interview skills and other work-oriented skills should be learned in school, I not only don't believe this class is highly relevant but that forcing students to take this class could result in huge drops in enrollment, reputation and most importantly a disruption to the highly productive learning environment Lakeview High School has created and maintained in the past.
As a school of choice student, I felt incredibly lucky to be able to attend school at Lakeview. I felt that curiculum, teachers and even other students were held to a high standard that allowed me as a student to be highly successful in not only high school but also in college and in the

This sounds good on paper because some details seem to be missing. It was mentioned in the same article as the revised sex education class which will include LGBT issues and language. I see this being no different. My child shouldn't be forced to take this class.

What does the course description actually read? I tried to find it on the website and it hasn't been updated yet. I was present at the Board of Ed meeting where this new class was proposed, and to me it did not sound offensive or biased. Also, how many trimesters is the class?
