Carbondale food and beverage tax relief

This tax should be permanently removed. Local restaurants have been struggling for a long time now. I see more and more close every year with hardly any new restaurants to fill the void. The cost of operating a locally owned restaurant in this town is already shockingly expensive, especially when Carbondale itself is struggling to attract new residents and keep old ones here. Losing all of our local restaurants decreases the uniqueness and appeal to potential students and professionals. And now with the mandatory bar and restaurant closures, we are more vulnerable than ever. Keep Carbondale alive, don't strangle our economy with frivolous taxes that only hurt the locals.

If this tax isn’t suspended or eliminated, many businesses will close and hundreds of people will be without jobs.

The restaurants and their workers are already going through so much during this time of crisis. It would only be fair for the City of Carbondale to issue this tax relief.
