Capella University\'s school week runs from Monday through Sunday midnight for each unit of the school quarter except unit 10 which ends early at Friday 5:00 PM. Unit 10 is the last week of the quarter and the abbreviated schedule deprives learners of valuable time to complete final assignments, papers, and projects. Many working professionals rely on the weekends for longer periods of dedicated study time than is normally available weekday evenings. Time is especially precious at quarter\'s end, and the current scheduling deprives learners of up to 55 hours for completing the most heavily weighted assignments. As with any unit, work may be submitted ahead of the final deadline, and signing this petition does prohibit learners from submitting final assignments on Friday. Instructors presently are allowed slightly over a week for grading unit 10 assignments and submitting final grades. In conjunction with extending unit 10, the instructor grading period shall likewise be extended. This petition is open to learners, core and adjunct faculty, and Capella admininstration.
