Cancellation of IGCSE EXAMS in all affected areas in the Middle East
As a student who is directly impacted by the current scheduling of the IGCSE, AS, and A2 mock examinations, I feel compelled to voice my concerns. These exams are no longer just practice assessments; they are carrying the weight of potentially replacing final exams, owing to the unprecedented disruptions in the academic calendar brought about by ongoing challenges in the world.
The sudden shift in their importance simply cannot be understated. Previously, mock exams served as a rehearsal for the real deal—an opportunity for students like me to gauge our readiness and identify areas for improvement without the pressure of them being decisive. However, with the current scenario, these mock exams have become critical checkpoints, and the outcomes could heavily influence our academic futures.
Given this significant change in stakes, the current timeline of a week’s preparation is utterly inadequate. Studying for these mocks should reflect the gravity they now hold, necessitating a postponement to provide adequate preparation time for all students. A delay would ensure that students can approach these exams with the seriousness and dedication they deserve, leading to more accurate assessments of our capabilities.
Consider the ripple effect on students' mental health and stress levels with just a week's notice to prepare for assessments that could dictate their next academic steps. Academic institutions owe it to their students to provide a fair opportunity to undertake exams that could shape their educational trajectories.
We propose a minimum postponement of these examinations by at least two weeks. This extension would allow educators to better support their students, offer thorough revision sessions and ensure that all students can approach these pivotal exams with due preparedness and confidence.
Let us come together to urge educational institutions to reconsider their stance on these mock exams, prioritize student welfare amidst challenging times, and align testing schedules with the current importance these exams hold.
