If you want to be a principal in Texas you are required to have a master's degree as well as complete a principal certification program which costs thousands of dollars and have rigorous standards. Following that, the state of Texas used to only give one exam after you complete your program, NOT ANYMORE. Now the new tests are the Texes 268 and the PASL 368. The 268 is very hard but is the standard and a common expectation for the beginning principal, however the PASL is an extensive set of tasks that a principal candidate must complete on their campus with the help and collaboration of at least several dozen other people. This test requires extensive writing, data sets, as well as frequent collaborative meetings for already stressed campuses who's staff is literally taking turns juggling Covid. Each task requires at least a 26,500 character word count on top of at least 8 other pages of ancillary documents PER TASK!! Keep in mind that most people have to build their tasks for months in the age of Covid, the recent winter storm Uri that crippled the state, not having standard student populations in school, no state testing data from the 2019 year due to Covid ON TOP OF THAT, most of the people who are trying to pass this test are already working as teachers, or other instructionally related work! THIS IS THE WRONG YEAR TO BRING THIS REQUIREMENT ON EDUCATORS! Its not feasible AT ALL nor is it necessary! In order to actually do it properly you'd have to have staff that aren't sick with Covid and students that attend school regularly and EVERYONE KNOWS THAT IS NOT THE CASE RIGHT NOW! DO RIGHT BY YOUR EDUCATORS, end this test or put it on hold until this NIGHTMARE IS OVER!
