Stop making it unbearable for residents to remain living in Chili. We’re in a pandemic, where many of us took lower paying jobs in order to stay off unemployment!

I understand the housing market. However according to the Town of Chili website, under Assessment Process there are FAQ's. Then under what is an assessment it goes onto say ...a percentage of market value and further says that "market value is how much a property would see under normal conditions. MY NOTE: We are not under NORMAL conditions.

This was an unreasonable assessment increase in our opinion. Factor in the tough economic times we are in as a society and this was unwarranted and criminal. Is this a way to fund the new community center? If so this is not the way to do it!

Taxes are too high to begin with and with all the new builds the taxes shouldn't be as high as they are

Recent assessments were based on an unstable market and can cause real harm when the housing market shifts again. It feels predatory and unfair, especially since our last assessment was only 2 years ago.

Saying this is poor timing is a serious understatement. Aside from the pandemic which has left the entire world struggling for over a year now , we had a town wide reassessment just a couple years ago (that raised the houses assessed value in my neighborhood by 15-30,000). The almost definite increase in taxes are one thing but then theres the fact that I would be lucky to get what it is currently assessed at if I sold it tomorrow. There is absolutely no way my house would fetch the $20,000 more the town reassessed it at last week, even in this crazy buying market.

$45,000 is outrageous. The housing market will go down and then what happens.

Please consider rescinding or lowering Chili assessments. Very poor timing with Covid pandemic financial challenges.

My house was purchased in 2019 and assessed then...we have don't no improvements and now the assessment went up 36 thousand dollars. If taxes do go up it will tax us out of the town.

Raising assessments in the middle of a pandemic is not only irresponsible but cruel to your residents.
