The new documentary by Netflix, that is scheduled to air on May 10th, 2023 is a misleading piece of fiction that represents Afrocentrist claims as fact and portrays a Greek - Egyptian Queen of Macedonian (Greek) descent as a black woman. Clips from the 'documentary' include that of an elderly lady saying: "My grandmother always told me: 'Don't listen to what they tell you at school, Cleopatra was black'."
Documentaries are meant to educate and promote scholarly learning while presenting facts, not dogmatic conjecture. Even though we believe that representation matters in media and the arts, Cleopatra was a historical figure tied to the nations of Greece and Egypt who have to suffer the daylight theft of their beloved historical figure for the sake of 'feel-good' projects in America, and not a fictitious character that could be portrayed by anyone.
As Mansa Musa, Shaka Zulu, Nelson Mandela or the Yellow Emperor, Sitting Bull and other historical figures tied to the central narratives of other nations could not be portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, likewise, Cleopatra should not be portrayed by a non Mediterranean actress. Join your voice against the falsification of history and the celebration of ignorance. Stealing and appropriating history is not conducive to dialogue and the brotherhood of mankind.

Our history is written in stone. Our identity is not up tor debate or “reparations handouts” or whatever is going on over there We are not black. We are not white. We are 100 million Egyptians that take our heritage VERY seriously. Drop this disgusting falsification.
This documentary needs to be cancelled because it is not historically accurate. It is incredibly insulting to Egyptian and Macedonian/Greek community for Cleopatra to be ethnically portrayed as something she was not. Netflix can and should do better.
A series about cleopatra is great. Using identity politics to push an agenda and alter history it isn't. How is this better than hiring a white woman in the role? Cast a greek or egyptian actress if they really want to be DIVERSE! and historically correct. Enough of this woke stuff.
As a Greek , this is a Highjacking of my culture and History . There are so many real prominent black historical figures to make a documentary on , why falsify the reality that Cleopatra was not Greek Macedonian .
Claims that Cleopatra was Nubian or African and portrayed as a Black Queen is total fantasy. This is NOT a documentary. If you wish to rewrite history, produce a fantasy film, How about a REAL documentary about a TRUELY African or Nubian queen?
This is a historically inaccurate, dishonest and fictinal depiction of her ancestry and of her life. It is offense to history, to Greek people and to Egyptians. Take it off and discard it, like the trash that it is. Cleopatra's father was Ptoleu XII Auletes - King of the Greek Egypt (Ptolemaic). His mother was Cleopatra the third, which is where his daughter (Cleopatra VII) got her name from. Her mother is also believed to be Cleopatra V Tryphaena, so her name therefore came from both. For those who are unaware, the Ptolemic dynasty was a Greek dynasty from Macedonia, and had nothing to do with Sub Saharan African people of cultures. The Ptolemaic dynasty traces its origins from 305B.C. down to 30B.C. There are 26 rulers during that time. Remove the American Hollywood fiction immediately!
