We as parents need to protect our children. Our children are innocent, precious and fragile. as a community we should be protecting the children and our elected politicians and bureaucrats who represent the community should do the same. Sadly the wellbeing of our children is at risk.

Goulburn Mulwaree Library has decided that it is acceptable to expose young impressionable minds to Drag Queens. Drag queens are for adults, not children. Drag queens are adult entertainers usually in nightclubs and pubs most of the time with a sexual connotation. Why are they reading to kids? Why are kids being involved? We never had a problem with drag queens until they started involving the kids. There is no such thing as drag being a family friendly event. Why do adults want to dress in drag attire to read to children?

Children do not know what normal looks like. They only know what they are exposed to. A drag show, or a drag queen story hour, isn’t simply men parading in women’s attire. Subjecting children to drag shows or drag queen story hour are indoctrinating and grooming children to believe that it is normal for men to play dress-up as their favourite female idol in dresses that reveal large silicone breasts while adorned in outrageous wigs and caked-on makeup. Their appearance does not evoke one of a woman deserving of respect. Rather, it is a mockery of women, and perpetuates our sexual objectification.

To expose children to drag shows, to drag attire, to bring that into the minds of a 3-year-old, a 4-year-old, a 5-year-old, an 8-year-old, is wrong. It is objectively wrong. It socializes and conditions. It unlocks doors in their brains that they are not ready for.

As parents we know the challenges of raising children. We know children need to be educated but they also need to be protected from concepts they are too young to understand. It is not appropriate for young children to be exposed to Drag Queens.

Regardless of your race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender, please help us send a message to Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Goulburn Mulwaree Library. Let them know that the community wants to protect all children and strongly objects to 'Drag Storytime' for children at Goulburn Mulwaree Library.

Leave our kids alone, let our kids be kids.
