In my circle of close friends I have two that prefer not to identify as girl or boy and use the pronoun "they" and one friend who is a trans girl. In my children's school, there are two kids that identify as trans. I believe all these people and everyone else who isn't binary or cis should have the same rights as me.

In the year 2017, something like gender shouldn't be marginalizing anyone.

Beyond feminism and beyond transgender women, this is a humanity issue. OF COURSE Trans Rights are Human Rights! What are we implying? The transgender community are human beings, just as cisgendered folks are. I can't believe it has to be pointed out! Get a move on, parliament!

The OHRC puts it well: "People who are transgender, or gender non-conforming, come from all walks of life. Yet they are one of the most disadvantaged groups in society. Trans people routinely experience discrimination, harassment and even violence because their gender identity or gender expression is different from their birth-assigned sex."

Every generation there is a new frontier of knowledge and understanding about the human being. And in each generation there are those who want to hold back rights.
