In recent days it has come to light that the National Security Agency in the United States has been clandestinely accessing information since 2007 that citizens thought was private. http://www.businessinsider.com/prism-spying-program-nsa-fbi-mine-data-yahoo-facebook-google-2013-6 As you might know much of the daily internet activity not just of American Citizens but Canadian Citizens alike goes through many of these servers. Up until this point people have had reasonable expectations that a one-on-one communique via one of these services was private. Some of these services also included journaling services in which a user could select an option to make an entry to said journal "private". Since 2007 the private thoughts and feelings of innumerable Canadian citizens has been violated by the United States Government. In the span of time in question these companies have also heavily promoted their email and instant messaging services to the business community; so undoubtedly many Canadian business related communications have also been intercepted. By concentrating all of this information into a single source the NSA has also taken the first step in ushering in a renaissance era for identity theft, because now it will take only a single security breach to have just that. All this aside; the internet is quickly becoming an integral part of our daily lives and if nothing is done to overturn this ghastly violation of peoples ESTABLISHED HUMAN RIGHT to privacy it will set a very dangerous precedent going forward. We the undersigned call upon Stephen Harper to place pressure on the United States Government to not only end this program but to issue a public apology to the international community which acknowledges the dangerous precedent such a program sets as well as to see to the immediate resignation of all persons responsible and that they never again see employment in the public sector.
