The government finally committed to opening the doors for these families and increasing the aid we demanded. It has been a long and exhausting road but the families will finally have their loved ones safe. I am quiet now because the work is done.

We, the undersigned, would like to acknowledge and thank the Government Of Canada for its commitment to provide Humanitarian Assistance to the refugees and civilians of Syria. Furthermore, we would like to voice our strong opinion that the Government Of Canada continue to do more to help the people of Syria in the form of additional aid. We believe that, as the Syrian Civil War continues, innocent civilians, with special consideration for the children, will desperately need our assistance as the normal structures of society continue to breakdown due to both the conflict and international sanctions designed to place pressure on the Assad regime. In addition, we believe that Canada is a country of immigrants, of peoples from all corners of the globe, who have created a societal tapestry which serves as a beacon of light and hope to the world. It is in this context that we call on the Government Of Canada to open its borders to Syrian refugees and, in particular to the families of Syrian Canadians who so desperately wish to provide safe haven for their own during the escalating Syrian crisis. To deny these Canadian families the opportunity to save the lives of their own relatives is inhumane and un-Canadian. Please open our nation's doors to those to whom fate has dealt a cruel blow. Finally, we call on our government to do everything in its power to work with the Russian government to seek a compromise that would allow it to vote with the majority of the U.N. Security Council to pass stronger resolutions aimed at expediting the inevitable end of the Assad regime.

The path forward feels exhausting and the bureaucracy is slow to move. We are nearly at one hundred signatures and reaching this threshold is the only way to ensure the authorities notice our demand for action.
