Bring MDA Camp Age Limit Back To 21
For the past twelve years I have attended MDA Summer Camp in Nebraska. It has been held in numerous locations throughout the state, but always gave me and campers like myself a week of carefree fun without having to worry about the barriers and limitations that our disability causes. I will unfortunately be too old to attend MDA Camp after this summer, as I turn 22 in February of 09. I accept this openly, but this past week, I received a letter stating that the age limit for campers will be cut from 6-21, to only 6-17 for the 2009 Summer Camp Season. As I said before, this will not affect me because this summer will be my last, but I do know many people who this will influence and sadden greatly. For this one week each summer is greatly cherished by all. The purpose of this petition is to show that there should be a camp program or something similar for people over 17 who are affected with Muscular Dystrophy. This one week is extremely special for these campers, because all year long they are faced with limitations to what they are able to do, where at camp everything is set up to allow them to have fun, without worrying about the dreaded how questions. Each year, millions are raised during the MDA telethon with a large portion going to fund MDA Camps all over the country. This chance at physical acceptance should not be taken away only because of age. Everyone deserves this one week of freedom. If you agree with this, please sign bellow. Please pass this along
