There are brown meadow sites suitable for housing development. Too much of this pushing nature to one side to make way for bricks and mortar in the most inappropriate places. Giving people places to live SHOULD NOT TAKE AWAY THE PLEASURE OF LIVING!

It is time we demanded that Government acted ethically even if companies will not. This application deliberately destroys our increasingly rare habitats.

Hi Dan you can find out more on our FB page Save Altons butterfly meadows.The developer has offered to save about a third of this valueable site, we along with the support of the Butterfly conservation Trust and Hampshire and Isle of Wight wildlife Trust want to save the whole of the upper meadows and see it managed with minimal impact to the wildlife as it is now. The butterfly conservation Trust have offered to manage the site for us if it can be saved. It's too valueable to loose it!

I agree with this campaign, but agree with other comments that this petition page could do with a couple of links to explain what is proposed. See http://southalton.com/concept-layout-2/ for what the developers are planning. Note that an 'opportunity to create a new country park' is not the same as agreeing to pay for one, and won't compensate for the lost habitats. We all need to live in houses, but need a debate about where and how we build them.

Hi no we have been expecting them to mow as they always do at this time of year, it's a bit earlier than we would have liked but botanical survey has been done thank goodness, will still be hopefully some butterflies still!

All the grasses and wild flowers have been mown down sometime between Wednesday 23rd July 9.30am and Thursday 24th July 10.30am. Hope this is not a bad sign.

It is a pity they feel they can get away with building houses on the hilltop - a blight to the landscape that will be seen from many miles away, including the South Downs National Park.

It is a beautiful site and we have walked our dog over it for many years - well before the signs went up. Such a shame it wasn't registered as a Village Green before it was sold for development - I am sure the application would have succeeded.

Hi the meadow is near Ackender woods and can be accessed just off the main path up to the woods or from the water tower, its marked private land, a developer put the signs up they have an option on it!
