Statement of Support for the Citizens and City of Venice
We the undersigned, who hold dear the city of Venice, wish to voice our profound concern for the worsening conditions that unchecked tourism has created for the citizens of Venice and their city. The recent announcement from UNESCO concerning the imminent listing of Venice as an Endangered World Heritage site serves only to underscore the severity of this ongoing crisis. We will not sit idly while this continues.
We do not offer prescriptions, nor do we make demands. Those who live in Venice know what they need and how to care for their city. We rather declare our support for the citizens of Venice as they organize and fight to keep Venice a city in which one can live and work, a city that preserves it past while ensuring its future. We believe that they, and the city, deserve no less.
Citizens of Venice, we are with you in heart and spirit. It is our fervent desire that Venetian citizens and the local, regional and national governments can come together and forge a sustainable present and viable future for the city and its people. Meanwhile, we, who know and love your great city from afar, will focus our hopes and energies in support of that better future.

I just looked at the counter and realized we hit two hundred fifty signatures which is wild because I really thought this would just be a tiny project for a few friends to see. It is actually overwhelming to think about all those people caring about Venice from all over the place and I keep clicking refresh just to make sure it is real because maybe I am just hallucinating from too much caffeine and not enough sleep.

I was looking at the pictures of the canals again and just thinking about how unsustainable the foot traffic honestly is despite how beautiful the light hits the water. A lot of you have sent me messages about your own trips which I am reading through one by one because the personal connections to this place are truly something else.

I keep refreshing the page because watching the count tick up toward one hundred is actually making me vibrate with energy. If everyone reading this just sent a quick link to a person they know who loves Venice, we would blast past this milestone before I even have time to make another cup of coffee.

Venice is a beautiful city and the local population are being driven out by high prices and lack of support by the government/ mayor. Venice needs tourism but it also needs local people otherwise it's just not alive.
Venice is a most beautiful and unique place - and it is also a place that the Venetians would like to call home. Sadly too many shops and services that are part of a community have gone away. We all must work together so that profit is not the only driving force behind the changes happening in Venice - but also preservation, sustainability and community.
thank you for this vital cry for Venice, the city has indeed become Disneyland, and the tourists are destroying it, but most of all destroying the spirit. The venetians must not be driven out.
I live in Venice, I wanted to live in Venice, I want to continue to live in Venice and not to leave it. Venice is a town, is not a museum! Thank you for support us!
Loving Venice as much as I do I appreciate the city and its beautiful people
Venice belongs to the world, but first of all tp its citizens. Venice deserves so much better of its politicians!

I support the citizens of Venice, it’s time that housing was provided for native Venetians and the ones already forced out can come back and live in their city and make Venice ‘real’ again... Its not a theme part, it is a true centre of culture, packed full of beautiful architecture and art...
