The county board voted to deny the rezoning request and the land will remain as it is for now. This was a long and exhausting fight but I am relieved that our neighborhood landscape is protected. We need to stay watchful for any future attempts to push this through.

As some of you may be aware, US Developments LLC is petitioning Union County for a Conditional Rezoning Petition #17-01 (Property North of the Camberley neighborhood along Providence Road.

The intent is to rezone this area for commercial use. It is our understanding that this development will include retail, restaurant, medical offices, a grocery store and other potential items.

This development duplicates many other commercial spaces in the area, and has potential traffic impact on this section of Providence Road.

Now is the time to act, the zoning meeting is Tuesday August 1st at 7PM at Union County Government Center at 500 N. Main Street, 1st floor. This meeting is open to the public, nor formal request is required.

You can also contact Waxhaw Mayor Steve Maher and express your concerns. [email protected]. Or Richard Jenson, Union County Planning Board [email protected].

And sign this petition.

The days feel long and the uphill climb is exhausting but I am still here. We need to reach the next milestone to ensure they actually pay attention to us when we walk into that room. Please take a moment to send this link to people in the neighborhood who have not yet signed.

We moved to a Waxhaw for its small town charm. The Oaks in Providence neighborhood would also be greatly impacted by this development, yet we were not made aware of the rezoning. Traffic in this area on Providence Road cannot support this size of a project.

This would add to an already nightmarish traffic problem that is growing around the neighborhoods in this area. It sometimes can take 10 minutes to turn left out of The Oaks at peak travel times. We do not need this development in Waxhaw. There are too many properties sitting clear and undeveloped in this area .

I am 100% against this particular choice of businesses going in at this location. I have worked in residential real estate for over 20 years and our companies have moved thousands of residents this this area BECAUSE of its small town feel. This development is out of control and it traffic is already horrendous.

This is a residential area that has no place for large commercial development. The area is not able to handle more growth or traffic, specifically on a stretch of road that was intended for small town neighborhoods!

I am against rezoning the subject area as commercial. Waxhaw has enough commercial development, vacancies, and graded land in addition to too much traffic. We want to keep our green space and manageable living conditions.

This rezoning request is not in compliance with the zoning standards that are already in place for the Town of Waxhaw Highway 16 Corridor Plan. Refer to the Town of Waxhaw Plans, Policies, and Ordinances.

NO more commercial development ! The traffic now is horrible. Waxhaw has no concern for the residents. Used to be a great area........now it's ruined
